The witnesses called by the defense still remain to be heard, then the trial for negligence in which a pensioner who is now 86 years old is being tried in the Verbania court will come to an end.
The facts
The episode that ended in the classrooms of Corso Europa in Pallanza happened in Paruzzaro. According to what has been reconstructed, the elderly man was behind the wheel of his car when he suddenly hit a scooter with a sixteen-year-old on his way home from school. Despite the impact, the young man managed not to crash on the asphalt, while the driver of the blue Renault Clio didn’t even stop.
A lady who noticed the accident from the window of her apartment in the Novara area. The student, after having noticed the possible damage to the scooter, left again. Once home, however, the pain in the foot felt during the impact had worsened and subsequent tests at the hospital had highlighted the fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the left foot. This was followed by a complaint from the sixteen-year-old’s family.
The police’s investigations had served to trace the identity of that blue car driven by that man who, after the accident, had not stopped to check on the scooter rider’s health conditions. During the last hearing held at the Verbania court, competent for the area, in addition to the soldier who handled the case, both the victim of the accident and the woman who heard the shot from the window of her house spoke. The defense witnesses remain to be heard, then the trial for failure to render aid (the possible sentence in the event of conviction of the accused ranges from 6 months to 3 years) will go to sentencing.
