This weekend we put on our boots and put on our gloves
This weekend I am in the town of Picanya (Valencia), one of those affected by DANA. It all started when I received a call from the Ukraine-Euskadi Association to collect food, cleaning products, boots, gloves, masks, well everything that could be collected to replace those affected by DANA. This project was led by Rubén and his friends from the Asturian Center of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
I decided to collaborate in whatever way I could and from one thing to another and in the end you get more involved than you thought.
When I spoke with Rubén, one of the first towns they planned to reach was Picanya, later the number of municipalities to which the aid has been delivered has expanded.
The fact is that I kept the name Picanya, unknown to me. And, through a Catholic musician friend from those Valencian lands, Jose Villanueva, I got the contact phone number for the parish priest of that town.
When I managed to speak with Don Joaquín, parish priest of Our Lady of Montserrat, I told him: “today everyone is focused on getting shovels, boots, food and clothing for you, but I don’t know if anyone has asked you about What would the parish need? What have you lost?” His response was simple: “Everything, we have lost everything.”
So we made a list of what we could try to bring him: forms to consecrate, mass wine, liturgical clothing, books for the liturgy, a guitar, and then also cleaning material so that once the mud had been removed, we could start cleaning in more detail. .
And that is what we have carried, in addition to some other little things that have fallen to us from the sky like some t-shirts, which the parishes of the Old Town of Vitoria have donated to us along with books for the liturgy and an alb for the priest who measures 1 ’90.

It is time to bring out personal sensitivities. Yes, DANA has caused a catastrophe that has affected many sectors, many services, many realities. And now everyone has to think about which one they empathize with the most and lend their help to that.
There are people who feel greater sensitivity with the issue of pets, so there is no one better than them to channel, enhance and support all the help of food for dogs and cats and other types of pets; As soon as the activities can get going again, those who feel a greater sensitivity to the issue of sport are the ones who have to help the teams recover their clothing, their elements to practice the sport they had been doing, so that the gyms, sports centers, to recover the life of major sports and minority sports; those who empathize with the commercial activities of one sector or another who support them with concrete initiatives; The nativity scene makers are already organizing to support the associations and nativity scene shops that have been affected, whose material now sleeps at the bottom of the Albufera.
Well, along these same lines, some of us who feel sensitive to the spiritual dimension of the human being understand that it is important to recover the life of the temples, of all the temples and of all religions, as soon as possible. For this reason, we have chosen a parish to which we can provide our concrete help, based on their specific needs, and that is what we are going to start doing this weekend.

Because recovering the life of the parishes is very important, it helps the feeling of recovering normality, it offers a space of peace, hope, and prayer.
Yes, I know that there are people who do not need it, who are not interested, that their empathy connects with other realities, other sectors, that they will have to cover. But we have chosen to focus our cooperation with this world on the religious dimension, on the religious fact that for many other people is fundamental.
