The city of Berlin wants to host American football games in the National Football League (NFL) in the next few years. A spokeswoman for the authorities confirmed to the rbb that the Berlin Senate wants to discuss and decide on a corresponding proposal from Sports and Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) on Tuesday. The game will be played in the Olympic Stadium. Previously had RTL/ntv reported.
On Sunday (November 10th) the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers will play the fourth NFL game on German soil in Munich. Frankfurt am Main has also hosted the event in the past. The league had already announced wanting to stay in Germany. “I am very optimistic and can give the green light to all NFL fans,
that we will continue to play here in Germany in the future,” said NFL Germany boss Alexander Steinforth.
Will the NFL soon play in Berlin?
American football and the North American professional league NFL are booming, especially in Germany. Which is why there will be a game in Munich again this year. Soon also in Berlin? By Ilja Behnischmore
Apparently there is talk of an investment worth millions
Senator Spranger has already contacted league officials, the Senate Department for the Interior and Sport confirmed to rbb. They are “convinced that the sports metropolis of Berlin with the Olympic Stadium is ideally suited as a venue for NFL events.” The city has proven several times in the past that it can organize major sporting events very well.
However, Alexander Steinforth emphasized that Munich and Frankfurt would remain the first points of contact for the NFL. It remains to be seen whether Berlin could already be an option for the next planned date in 2026.
No information has yet been provided about the financing of the event. According to the RTL/ntv report, Berlin is prepared to invest up to 12.5 million euros for the NFL spectacle.
