FC Schalke 04 gave its new coach van Wonderen its first win and left the relegation zone. The joy is clouded by the rejection of striker Modeste. Hannover 96 surprisingly loses in Elversvberg, but remembers their former professional Robert Enke there.
FC Schalke 04 has temporarily left the relegation zone of the second division with its first win since the end of September. The 2-0 (1-0) against direct competitor Jahn Regensburg on matchday 12 should also strengthen the position of coach Kees van Wonderen. For the Dutchman it was his first win as Schalke coach in his fifth competitive game.
Kenan Karaman (16th minute) and Moussa Sylla (53rd) made the self-proclaimed promotion aspirant’s third win of the season perfect. As a result, the Royal Blues jumped to 14th place with twelve points. Regensburg remains bottom of the table with just seven points after two competitive game wins under interim coach Andreas Patz.
While Schalke were once again able to score points in terms of sport, there was a small defeat off the pitch. Former Bundesliga professional Anthony Modeste will not move to the second division team. “I turned down FC Schalke,” the 36-year-old told Sky broadcaster.
Modeste reports trusting conversations
He was “able to get to know those responsible and had great, trusting conversations.” “I was shown a clear direction and plans that really inspired me,” Modeste said. But as a “Cologne native and former Dortmund player”, a change “didn’t feel right”. Youri Mulder, who has been working as the new interim director of professional football since last week, had previously answered evasively. “There are no negotiations,” said Mulder: “Modeste is a very good player. But we don’t talk about personnel.”
Elversberg – Hannover 3:1
Hannover 96 missed a big opportunity in the promotion race. The league leaders lost 1:3 (0:2) at SV Elversberg on Sunday and thus failed to move within four points of the relegation place.
Against a disappointing 96ers, Elias Baum (10th minute) and Fisnik Asllani (45th + 5) scored for Elversberg in the first half. Muhammed Damar (48th), who played for Hannover last season, increased the score to 3-0 shortly after the break. Nicolo Tresoldi (90+1) only scored for the leaders in added time. In the end the goal-scoring score was 22:7 for the clearly better underdog.
The guests had their strongest moment before the game, when the 96 fans who traveled with them remembered the former national goalkeeper with a great choreography on the 15th anniversary of Robert Enke’s death. The former goalkeeper for the 96ers and the German national football team suffered from depression and took his own life on November 10, 2009 at the age of 32.
Enke played for Lower Saxony from 2004 to 2009. In addition to the Hanover fans, numerous other Bundesliga clubs and Enke’s former clubs such as Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Carl-Zeiss Jena also remembered the goalkeeper on Sunday.
Karlsruher SC – Preußen Münster 1:1
With a controversial last-minute goal, newly promoted Preußen Münster spoiled Karlsruher SC’s home win and the jump to a direct promotion place. Only after video evidence did Lukas Frenkert’s 1:1 (0:1) count (90th + 2). In front of 30,083 spectators in the wildlife park, Georgian Budu Zivzivadze (37th) initially took the lead for the home team, which had been superior for a long time.
The KSC had recently lost twice and was unable to turn things around again. Before the international break, the Baden team, who had to make do without their suspended coach Christian Eichner on the sidelines, are in fourth place. Münster is third from bottom in the table.
After Eichner was shown the red card following the away game at Hannover 96 last Saturday, he was not allowed to sit on the bench as usual. The 41-year-old watched the game under the stadium roof – and saw the guests’ last-minute madness.
