Augsburg dominated the game, especially in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to score a goal. Arne Maier, who was deployed in midfield for the suspended Elvis Rexhbecaj, was unlucky in the 18th minute: after a remarkable combination with Frank Onyeka and Phillip Tietz, his shot from the edge of the penalty area was blocked by Arthur Chaves. Hoffenheim hardly had any successful duels and only created a few chances.
After halftime, the Hoffenheim team became a little livelier, but the guests kept making bad passes. Augsburg did a little better and put more pressure on towards the end of the game. Substitute Steve Mounié (79′) forced TSG keeper Baumann into a brilliant save. A few seconds later it hit Augsburg Mert Kömür also substituted only for the side net.
