This weekend, the Jules Ferry gymnasium in Hyères hosted an exceptional event for all judo enthusiasts: the judo festival, organized by the Dojo des Iles d’Or under the leadership of its president William Brossard and Michel Abran . The opportunity allowed young people and amateurs to meet emblematic figures of French judo, including Luka Mkheidze, European champion and Olympic medalist.
An honorary medal for an Olympic champion
The event began on a note of recognition, with the presentation of the City of Hyères medal to Luka Mkheidze by representatives of the municipality. Luka Mkheidze, bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics and silver in Paris individually, and also Olympic team champion, received this honor for his exceptional career and commitment to sport. Accompanied by Larbi Benboudaoud, former Olympic medalist and world champion, Mkheidze shared his inspiring journey with the young people present, encouraging them to persevere and dream big.
Outstanding training led by Luka Mkheidze
The day’s program offered several activities for different age groups, allowing the youngest to learn basic judo techniques. At 10:30 a.m., a mass workout led by Luka Mkheidze allowed participants to train alongside their idol. This session brought together many judokas, of all levels, who were able to benefit from the technical advice of an internationally renowned champion. For children, this moment of sharing with Mkheidze will undoubtedly remain unforgettable, a special moment with a champion who embodies the values of respect and discipline of judo.
Competitions and activities on offer
The festivities continued throughout the day with activities for young people, weigh-in sessions, as well as team competitions. The highlight of the event was the “Crédit Agricole-René Abran Challenge”, an intense competition where teams of five judokas competed against each other in several weight categories. The day ended with a closing drink, bringing together participants, organizers, and families, all united by their passion for judo.
With this judo festival, the Dojo des Iles d’Or not only offered an exceptional meeting with Luka Mkheidze, but also strengthened the community spirit around the sport, inspiring young people to pursue their dreams.
