Sinner beats De Minaur on his debut at the ATP Finals
TURIN (ITALPRESS) – Debut on velvet for Jannik Sinner in the ATP Finals in Turin. On the fast track of the Inalpi Arena, the Italian tennis player, number one in the world, defeated the Australian Alex De Minaur, number 8 in the ATP ranking, with a score of 6-3 6-4. In the other match of this group A of the Finals, Taylor Fritz defeated the Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-4 6-3. In his second outing of this “Master”, Sinner (seventh success in the eight matches played against De Minaur) will face the American. Finally, third obstacle of the group for the South Tyrolean Medvedev, who was very nervous and fouled today.
“Obviously it’s nice that the ATP circuit ends here. There is no more beautiful place for me. This year I didn’t play in Rome and I was very sorry. In 2023 I reached the final here at the Finals, let’s see how it goes this year. Then the Davis Cup will follow,” Sinner said after the victory. The Italian’s next rival will be the American Taylor Fritz, who won today against Daniil Medvedev. “I didn’t play Paris-Bercy, it’s true, but I arrived here in Turin early and I prepared well. Now I have a day of rest. Then it will be tough against Fritz: today he played a great match,” added the South Tyrolean.
Tomorrow there will be room for the first two matches of the other group. On the field therefore Carlos Alcaraz, opposite Casper Ruud, and Alexander Zverer, who challenges Andrey Rublev.
