The Geretsried sports clubs would be looking forward to working with the sports high school in the city forest. This emerged from a meeting organized by sports officer Wolfgang Werner.
Geretsried – The Geretsried sports clubs are looking forward to working with Munich Süd (MS) Sportschule GmbH if the citizens decide in a referendum on November 24th to locate a sports high school in the city forest. This emerged from a meeting with club chairmen and sports school representatives that was organized by the city council’s sports officer, Wolfgang Werner (SPD).
Under the motto “Where are the sneakers pinching?” he regularly invites people to exchange ideas. This time it was about what the clubs expect from the planned private sports school and what cooperation could look like. Matthias Pohlus from the MS Sportschule and Florian Kurrle, designated headmaster, were guests.
Sports high school in Geretsried: Young TuS athletes make their statements
For their advertising campaign, the initiators asked young TuS athletes for statements about the planned sports high school and showed a slide about it. “A project like this would have helped me find a better balance back then,” says hurdler Lara Holzhauer. The successful badminton player Ann-Kathrin Spöri is quoted as saying: “Sport develops our personality.”
In order to combine school and competitive sports, most of the talented people go to boarding schools. “We consciously don’t want that in Geretsried. The young athletes should be able to sit at the breakfast table with the family on Sundays,” said Matthias Pohlus, a long-time coach in alpine skiing. He imagines the cooperation with the local clubs in such a way that the students in the open all-day school have a double hour of sports every day – both in popular sports and in the competitive sports classes.
Sports high school: start of lessons and holidays should adapt to competition phases
Different things such as fitness, strength, mobility and coordination are trained there. You want to coordinate with the respective trainers where the focus is. Then, for example, a student can do intensive exercises alone in the fitness room. Otherwise, it is an advantage if athletes from different sports train together because the basketball player learns something from the skier when it comes to his ability to react.

According to Kurrle, the aim is to make both the start of lessons and the distribution of legally required vacation days flexible and adapt to competition phases. Students who are currently competing can learn the lessons online at any time. It should also be possible to switch from recreational to competitive sports classes and vice versa.
Geretsried: School operator would like recommendations from clubs
The future school operators expect the clubs to recommend young talents to them. There are reductions in school fees and scholarships for less well-off families. The club representatives, in turn, welcomed the fact that their protégés showed up to training a little exhausted and well-balanced and that their homework had already been completed thanks to the all-day care. A youth coach for the Geretsried sports shooters called both a big advantage. Britta Brinkmann from the TuS board asked whether coaches could possibly get involved at the sports school in the morning, to which Pohlus replied in the affirmative.
The meeting positively welcomed the offer that clubs could book both the planned triple gym in the middle of the campus and the fitness, dance and gymnastics rooms for a fee similar to the municipal hall usage fee in the afternoon and evening. Conversely, TuS boss Mirko Naumann said that the Isarau stadium was never so busy with other students that the students of the sports high school could not use it without any problems.
Clubs and initiators: win-win situation
DLRG representatives knew that it would be more difficult with the indoor swimming pool. “If we can get times there, we’ll be happy. “But we don’t want to take anything away from the other schools or the clubs,” emphasized Pohlus. Overall, clubs and initiators saw the construction of the sports school as a “win-win situation”. By Tanja Lühr
