The Carolina Panthers defeat the New York Giants in the 2024 Germany game in Munich. Bryce Young from the Panthers wins the quarterback duel against Daniel Jones. Three things that stood out about this game.
More than 70,000 fans in the FC Bayern arena. When the NFL calls for games in Germany, crowds of spectators continue to flock.
The Carolina Panthers beat the New York Giants 20:17 in overtime in the NFL Germany game. In regular time it was 17:17 after the Giants fought their way back against the Panthers in Munich after a bad start.
In the end, youngster Bryce Young (23) celebrated with the Panthers, who won the quarterback duel against veteran Daniel Jones. SportsIllustrated names three things that stood out about this game:
1. Outstanding German NFL fans at the Munich Game
The German football fans once again created a great atmosphere in the third year of NFL games in Germany. After Munich 2022 and Frankfurt 2023, the arena was again completely sold out by fans – the demand for tickets was even more gigantic at almost a million.
The NFL fans in Germany not only understand the sport from the USA 100 percent, but have taken it 1000 percent into their hearts. Accompanied by jerseys from all sorts of NFL teams, the spectators in the Munich Arena created a great atmosphere.
By the time “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver was sung and videos of the fans singing along were posted on social media, the recognition around the world – and especially from the USA – was great. The other fans around the world love the great football fever in Germany.
2. New York Giants need new quarterback
Both the Carolina Panthers and the Giants needed a win in Munich to partially save the season. Before the game, the Panthers and the Giants had only two wins. After winning overtime, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young celebrated.
His competitor on the other side – Daniel Jones – slumped his shoulders. The 27-year-old had once again failed to deliver a convincing performance this season. With only 190 yards thrown and two interceptions, Jones was disappointing across the board.
You could almost get the impression from this game that the Giants needed a new quarterback. An experienced player or a fresh talent. Definitely a quarterback who isn’t so sedate in his runs and throws. Routine alone is not enough.
3. A complete failure: Lame halftime show with Machine Gun Kelly
The weak point of the NFL game in Munich was the halftime show by US star Machine Gun Kelly. There were fireworks on his small stage, which was pulled into the middle of the lawn on wheels by about 20 men at halftime, but his songs were more of a nonstarter.
Machine Gun Kelly only played two songs, most of whom had probably never heard his first song before. For the second song he sang “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver in a different form – but this song didn’t send a spark over the audience either.
Then the halftime show was over again. Machine Gun Kelly disappeared as quickly as he came. The stage was pushed off the pitch in no time and most spectators were happy that the game continued. A really good halftime show looks different.
