Carlos Mendoza with a big debut
Carlos Mendoza began his era as a Major League manager in great form. Despite getting off to an 0-5 start to the season, he led the Mets to the National League Championship Series.
Mendoza knew how to battle with the Mets in one of the most difficult divisions in the Major Leagues. He advanced as one of the best wild cards, reaching the Championship Series.
In the regular season, the Mets finished with a record of 89-73 wins, tied with the Atlanta Braves and six wins behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.
He had to deal with injuries to Kodai Senga, Francisco Álvarez, Starling Marte, among other players, but he put together a great team that was two wins away from the World Series.
His rival for the Manager of the Year award will also be a debutant like Pat Murphy. Murphy won the Central Division pennant after finishing with a record of 93 wins and 69 losses.
Milwaukee ended up losing to the Mets in the NL wild card round.
Mike Shildt led the Padres to qualify for the wild card and was fighting for the West pennant until the last week of the regular season. San Diego finished with 93 wins and 69 losses.
Shildt knew how to put together a good team with pieces like Luis Arráez and Tanner Scott, in addition to the great years of players like Jurickson Profar, Jackson Merrill, among others.
The Manager of the Year award will be announced on November 19 at 6:00 pm ET.
