A couple of weeks have passed since a fateful fifth inning deprived the Yankees of the comeback against the Dodgers during Game 5 of the World Series, in which the Californians tied the title and despite the weather one of the Mulos’ greatest rivals, Pedro Martínez, spoke about it.
Martínez was recently questioned as part of his work as an analyst on FOX Sports, about what he thought of the Yankees’ performance, but far from being impartial, he instead sent a strong message that ranged between irony and mockery.
The Dominican pitcher took the opportunity to remember that the only time a team has been able to overcome a three-game deficit in the postseason was the Boston Red Sox in 2004, precisely against the Yankees, who after being up 3-0 ended up falling.
“They had the same opportunity as us 20 years ago to come back and make history. But they didn’t. I base myself on the words of David (Ortiz): they are not us!”Martinez said.
On that occasion, during the semifinals of the American League Championship Series, the Yankees were comfortably one win away from returning to the World Series but An unexpected reaction made Boston become the first team in baseball history to come back from 3-0.
As if that were not enough, the emotional boost was sealed with the victory in the October Classic, their first since 1918.
Since his time as a player, Martínez always rejected the Yankees.one that increased when he spent much of his career pitching for the Red Sox.
In fact, the right-hander starred in one of the biggest fights in history precisely against the Yankees, starting the brawl with a malicious pitch and ending his participation when he threw the deceased former player Don Zimmer to the ground despite being over 70 years old.
