A difference of 60kg. A unique fight at the Olympic Games in judo

Today the final round of the judo competition at the Olympic Games takes place. A distinctive feature of these competitions is that they are held in a team format, where the team that first achieves 4 victories wins. The final program of competitions will be a mixed team tournament, where the French team is the reigning Olympic champion.

Athletes take part in competitions in weight classes up to 48-57 kilograms for women and up to 60-73 kilograms for men (flyweight), up to 57-70 kilograms for women and up to 73-90 kilograms for men (middleweight) and up to 70-78 and over 78 kilograms for women and up to 90-100 and over 100 kilograms for men (heavyweight). This means that athletes with a significant weight difference can compete against each other.

An unexpected situation arose at the mixed team championships between France and South Korea. In the fifth fight, the Koreans challenged a representative of the middleweight, whereas the French sent their strongest athlete, the Olympic champion in the over 100 kilogram weight class, to the fight. The fight between them lasted about 90 seconds and ended with the victory of the Frenchman.

France advanced to the final where they will face Japan, while South Korea will fight for bronze against Germany.

We remind that Olga Kharlan won the first medal for Ukraine at the Paris Olympics.
