Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova publicly called for more “respect and professionalism in the sports media” after the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia. The Czech reacted forcefully on the social network Krejcikova didn’t want to accept the disrespect and received a lot of support for it.
“As an athlete dedicated to this sport, it is disappointing to see these types of unprofessional comments,” she wrote: “This is not the first time something like this has happened in the sports world. I have often chosen not to say anything, but I believe it is time to address the need for respect and professionalism in sports media.”
Jon Wertheim apologizes to Barbora Krejcikova
US journalist Jon Wertheim (53) made derogatory comments about Krejcikova’s forehead. He later published an apology and a statement to X. He also apologized to Krejcikova, wrote the long-time companion on the tennis tour.

Krejcikova (28) reached the semi-finals in Riyadh and lost to the Chinese Zheng Qinwen. Coco Gauff (USA) secured the tournament victory in the season finale for the best eight players. (dpa/js)
