The NBA is always good for surprises, and the 2024-25 season did not disappoint. Some contenders have gotten off to a rocky start, while others are coming in with a lot of momentum. The latter includes the Golden State Warriors, who have exceeded all expectations with an 8-2 start.
Of course, when a team turns the tide, history changes. But maybe it shouldn’t. Even as the wins pile up, there’s a case to be made that the Warriors should make a big move – one that could put them in a better position for the playoffs.
Jonathan Kuminga, who did not receive a contract extension this summer, could be the key to this. The 22-year-old forward’s athleticism and potential make him an enticing trade for a Warriors team caught between current competition and developing young talent.
In this context brought Grant Hughes vom Bleacher Report floated the idea of transferring Kuminga as part of a deal with former Warriors superstar Kevin Durant, whom he sees as a dream target for the team.
“If things go wrong in Phoenix, Golden State could combine its available first-rounders with Kuminga and the corresponding salary to facilitate a reunion with old pal Kevin Durant. The interpersonal dynamic would be tricky, but KD would give the Dubs the second star they are currently missing.”
