At the end of September, Feyenoord and NAC met in the Eredivisie in a match that ended 2-0 for the Rotterdam team. Things went wrong after the match when some supporters of the away club went wild at a catering outlet that was knocked over, after which four of the Feyenoord employees suffered injuries. Shortly after the violent incident, NAC already advocated ‘maximum sentences’ for the seven rioters who were ultimately arrested.
The prosecutor for professional football has now decided that NAC itself will not escape unscathed. The club from Breda receives a suspended sentence of one away match without an audience with a term of two years. So it is not a conditional home match without supporters, because the KNVB accidentally communicated that on its own website on Monday.
In the event of a new incident, NAC will again face a match without away fans. That was the case once before this season, when the Pearl of the South had to compete against SC Heerenveen (4-0) without an away crowd. This had everything to do with the disturbances surrounding the fireworks during the promotional match with Excelsior.
