There was a lot of activity on the judo mats in Kirchbach. Three competitions took place with many regional successes – namely the Styrian student team championship, the Judo State League and also the final round of the Judo Vulkanland Cup.
KIRCHBACH. The Kirchbacher Hall recently became a mecca for judo sports. There were several competitions on the program.
First, the Styrian student team championship took place. Thanks to a judo cooperation in Vulkanland, the region was able to field a team for girls and boys. Both teams were able to achieve many individual victories. The result: The boys from Vulkanland took first place and thus the Styrian championship title, while the girls secured second place.
The mix made it successful
Afterwards, the adults took to the mats as part of the national judo league. Here too, the regional athletes were represented with a women’s and a men’s team. Although the Vulkanland women were not able to compete in all weight classes, they managed to put together a powerful team.
The mix of young and experienced fighters was ultimately the recipe for success. In three exciting rounds, the Southeast Styrian women gave everything and fought for the championship title.
The men from the Eichfeld/Kirchbach competition community took to the mat as defending champions. However, a 4:10 opening defeat against Union Graz – last season in the Bundesliga – made defending the title impossible. But the Southeast Styrians only hung their heads for a moment. The subsequent match against ASKÖ Graz was won 10:4. The atmosphere in the hall was overwhelming and the men from Eichfeld/Kirchbach were able to turn a 3:4 halftime deficit into a 7:7 draw. In the end that meant third place.
The youngsters in the spotlight
And: The final round of the Judo Vulkanland Cup was also held in Kirchbach. The youngest children made their big appearance. 74 judokas from the region showed off their skills in front of full ranks. The judo kids from Vulkanland or from the clubs in Eichfeld, Feldbach and Kirchbach, and the guest clubs in Gleisdorf and Leibnitz were highly motivated. At the end, all fighters received honorary awards for the daily ranking. And: Finally, the cup points were added up and the coveted Vulkanland medals were awarded.
District ranking to Kirchbach
The district ranking of the Judo Vulkanland Cup 2024 went to the Union Judo Club Kirchbach – second and third places went to Eichfeld and Feldbach.
“All in all, you can speak of a more than successful judo festival in Kirchbach,” said Benjamin Archan, chairman of the Union Judo Club Kirchbach.
He also emphasizes: “It’s not just the sporting successes that make the people of Kirchbach proud, but also the great solidarity within the club, which makes such a great event possible. At this point, a big thank you to all Vulkanland judoka and helpers,” he said Archan.
