After a singles tournament on October 20, the Cégep de Sept-Îles badminton team took part in a doubles competition on the Centre-du-Québec collegiate circuit, in Granby.
Sunday, in men’s doubles, the Voyageurs pair of Jérôme Audette/Noah Guillemette (D2) saw their journey end in the semi-final. With a record of four victories and no defeats in the preliminary rounds, the duo continued this momentum by defeating the representatives of Cégep de Thetford in the quarter-finals. The two Septiliens were slowed down during their final four clash, beaten 23-25 during the decisive round against players from Cégep de Sherbrooke.
The three other duos of the Voyageurs du Cégep de Sept-Îles did not manage to get out of the group phase. They are Olivier Dion/Emma Turbide (2v-2d in Mixed D1), Emma Turbide/Noa Deutsch (2v-2d in women’s D2) as well as François Larivière/Noa Deutsch (0v-3d in Mixed D2).
“For the second tournament of the season, the team had some good performances, although this is not necessarily reflected in the results. The first doubles/mixed tournament of the season is always more difficult, because these disciplines require more playing time and experience with partners. Our duos change from year to year due to our low number of athletes, which puts us at a disadvantage for the first tournaments,” said coach Alex Couture.
The Cégep de Sept-Îles snowshoes will be able to resume on 1is December in Trois-Rivières.
