Volantista Hugo Sanz from the Valonsadero Badminton Club won the bronze medal last weekend in the mixed doubles event at the Spanish U17 Championship that was held in the Huelva town of Palos de la Frontera. Hugo Sanz along with his partner Blanca Cantón (Belmecher), both in their first year in the category, completed an outstanding competition, losing in a tight three-set match in the semifinal round against Yaidel Gil (Portmany) and Ana Agua (Benalmádena ).
The performance of Irene Gárate and África Gazo in women’s doubles was also notable, achieving a creditable fifth place and staying very close to the medals, taking the quarterfinal match to a definitive third set against the Galician couple Sara del Castillo and Inés Poncela, ultimately winners of the championship.
In the individual events, both Hugo Sanz and Irene Gárate themselves, as well as their teammates Ian Antón and Miguel Pérez, performed correctly and left very good feelings for next year in their second year in the category.
In this way, the Valonsadero Badminton Club achieves one more medal in the Spanish Championships in lower categories (under 11-under 17) and now has six consecutive seasons standing on the podium of the most important national badminton event.
