The damage caused by the September floods in the Czech Republic to football infrastructure exceeds several hundred million crowns. The chairman of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, Petr Fousek, said this at a press conference after the meeting of the executive committee. The management of the FAČR postponed the decision on the exact distribution of aid until December, as they still do not know the specific amount that UEFA will contribute. According to estimates, it will be more like units of millions.

The European Football Union promised financial aid as early as September. “We still don’t know the exact amount. We are not completely happy because we thought we would know the amount sooner. It is one of the reasons why we postponed the distribution of aid until the December executive committee,” said Fousek.

‘I didn’t want to believe my eyes.’ Opava football players are helping to remove damage at the home stadium

Of the professional clubs, the second division Opava was the most affected, which even has to play home games in asylum at other stadiums. “I can say that the overall damage to the football infrastructure exceeds several hundred million crowns. And we calculate that the help (from UEFA) will be in the order of units,” explained Fousek.
“This means that then we have to choose a philosophy of proportionality, especially with an emphasis on the smallest clubs. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. However, we are intensively discussing it,” added Fousek, who is on the UEFA executive committee.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the management of FAČR took note that Petr Janoušek will be the new head of the association’s education and trainers section. He replaced Martin Vlk in the position, who headed to Slavia Prague.
“There was a selection process for the position, the technical director (Erich Brabec) finally chose Petr Janoušek after consultations with the Sports Council. He has all the prerequisites,” said Fousek.
Project Strahov
At the association’s headquarters in Strahov, Prague, work recently began on an extension to the FAČR building. The project will cost more than 100 million crowns and will be completely covered by FIFA and UEFA funds. It should be completed by March 2026.
“The project is financed from the funds of FIFA and UEFA, which we negotiated within the framework of the FIFA Forward and UEFA Hattrick programs. It is actually an extension of the FAČR building, the administrative facilities. It will especially make the Secretary General happy, because he will be able to place some of the people we have in seconded workplaces here. It corresponds to the background of the football association of the third millennium,” said Fousek.
