The NBA is always good for surprises, and the 2024-25 season hasn’t disappointed. Some contenders are off to rocky starts, while others are coming out swinging. Among the latter are the Golden State Warriors, who have defied expectations with an 8-2 start.
Naturally, when a team flips the script, the narrative changes too. But maybe it shouldn’t. Even with the wins piling up, there’s still a case for the Warriors to explore a big move—one that could put them in a better position for the playoffs.
Jonathan Kuminga, who didn’t secure an extension this summer, might hold the key. The 22-year-old forward’s athleticism and upside make him a tempting trade asset for a Warriors team caught between competing now and developing young talent.
In line with this, Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes floated the idea of moving Kuminga in a deal for former Warriors superstar Kevin Durant, whom he views as a dream target for the team.
“If things go sideways in Phoenix, Golden State could pile its available first-rounders together with Kuminga and matching salary to make a reunion play for old pal Kevin Durant. The interpersonal dynamics would be tricky, but KD would give the Dubs the second star they currently lack.”
