All together to celebrate the association’s coming of age gala Down syndrome Burgosthis Tuesday at the hotel NH Collectionwith its traditional delivery of awards which on this occasion intended to highlight the performance of the badminton player Carolina Marín -finally he could not keep the appointment-, National Police and the administrator of the Corona Hotels Group, Juan Carlos Barriocanal.

In statements to the media before the start of the event, the president of Down Burgos, Begoña Carpenterhighlighted how special this event is for all those who make up the association. “It is their important day, they live it with great enthusiasm,” she said, convinced that this initiative allows “value the hiring of people with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities”in addition to publicly recognizing the involvement of ten companies grouped in the Estela Business Club and five institutions that work on job placement for young people with Down Syndrome.

Within this context, the award-winning companies were Burger King, CaixaBank, Carrefour, GlaxoSmithKline, Grupo Cropu, Hotel Landa Palace, Inmobiliaria San Pablo, Obramat, Pepsico, Telepizza, Fundación Adecco, the Confederation of Business Associations of Burgos (FAE)he City hall capital, the Provincial Council and the University of Burgos (UBU).

According to Carpintero, there are currently 15 members of Down Burgos hired by companies in the city. Precisely, it is the same number of companies that contribute to this access to the world of work. “For them it is normalizing their lives, having that opportunity that other people have,” he said.

As Carpintero recalled, due to the situation in some areas of Spain affected by the DANADown Burgos decided to eliminate the traditional cocktail that was served at the end of the gala. Instead, that money will go to Red Cross with the objective of helping people who have suffered the ravages of this great natural disaster. In this way, he wanted to make it clear that it is “a small grain of sand with which we can collaborate and we found it very interesting.”

Despite her absence, Carolina Marín was very present at the gala due to her «professional competence and success». Likewise, the entity did not hesitate to set an example for the entire society of its “positive attitude” in the face of adversity. A circumstance, which, as Down Burgos points out, has allowed him to successfully face and overcome the serious injuries he has faced in his sporting life.

Another award went to the National Police, which is in full celebration of its 200 anniversary. With this award, the aim is to recognize the “fulfillment of its corporate purposes”, in particular the assistance and protection of vulnerable people, in addition to the special collaboration with entities and associations of families and people with disabilities in Burgos.

In statements collected by IcalCarpintero also highlighted the work carried out daily by National Police agents, especially with families who have people with disabilities. «It is very important that, for it to be a inclusive city and they can live and carry out their activity with total autonomy, there are safe environments,” he indicated.

Grateful for the award, the chief commissioner of the National Police of Burgos, Jesus Nogalestook the opportunity to highlight the importance of “provide a safe environment” so that people with disabilities “can develop.” In this sense, he stressed that “they have the right, like us, to live in peace, in society and harmony. Our job is to try to ensure that they can develop in an environment that allows them to develop fully.”

Finally, Down Burgos praised the “continued support” of Hoteles Corona, especially its manager Juan Carlos Barriocanal. «If you can do something for others and give back part of what society can give you, it is a satisfaction»stated Barriocanal without hiding his joy at receiving this recognition.
