For the first time, the exhibition of cattle (in the past Fairs) is separated from the horse exhibition, a decision that came after meetings between municipal officials and livestock farmers in the council. It will be this Saturday, November 16, when a total of 172 animals from 65 farms will meet at the Regional Livestock Market of La Pola.
It is a number «which makes it one of the largest in Asturias in which only professionals from the council participate«, they point out from the Lenense town hall. The event, which will distribute 7,000 euros between fees and prizes, will feature 148 draft horses and 24 saddle horses.
Manuel F. Espina, livestock councilor, has pointed out that «We have a high quality of animals in Lena, as was demonstrated at the bovine fair held during Les Feries. Horses and mares must have their own space and that is why, together with the council’s professionals, we hold an exhibition dedicated exclusively to these animals«.
From 40 participating farms in 2023 we went to 65 this year, with a considerable increase in head numbers. For the councilor the data reflects «that this sector needed its own sample«.
The Lena City Council reminds that farmers who attend the exhibition will be subsidized, in terms of diet, with 20 euros per animal if the trip is between 0 and 10 kilometers; 25 euros if they have to travel between 10 and 20 kilometers and 30 euros for more than 30 kilometers. To do this, they must prove the main location of the farm through an official document.
