Bronze at the U18 European Cup in Györ
– Successful weekend for the St. Johann Höllwart Sisters! After Maria won World Cup silver in Rome, her “little sister” celebrated her first major international success at the U18 European Cup in Györ/HUN. At the traditionally strong EC in Györ (563 participants from 27 nations), 15-year-old Michaela Höllwart (+70kg / ESV Sanjindo Bischofshofen) achieved her first European Cup podium with an impressive performance and won bronze.
After one win and one defeat, Michaela made it to the small final via the hope round and prevailed in the fight for third place against Nikola Zareba (POL) in the Golden Score. “Michaela fought very bravely and only narrowly lost the fight against the eventual winner Emma Feuillet-Nguimgo from France – with two to three shidos”praised national coach Martin Grafl.
This success by Michaela was to remain the ÖJV team’s only medal win in Hungary. The other two Salzburg participants, Marlene Schinwald (-57kg / Judo Union Flachgau) and Felix Scheiber (-81kg / PSV Salzburg), unfortunately remain unplaced after initial defeats.
