Successful on the away trip: The SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil is at the top of the Badminton Bundesliga. © Editor

The SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil is at the top of the table in the Badminton Bundesliga. The Brunnenstädter team won against 1. BC Bischmisheim (6:1) and SC Lüdingshausen (5:2) at the weekend.

(pm). »We can be very satisfied with that. It is of course unfortunate that both five-set games were narrowly lost on Sunday. With a regular line-up in mixed doubles, a 6-1 win would have been likely. But we are the league leaders and we don’t want to give up this position,” says team captain Kai Schäfer.

The SV Fun-Ball had to react to a short-term staff shortage, which primarily had consequences for the lineup of the men’s doubles. In the first men’s doubles, Alexander Dunn and William Kryger Boe scored in five sets on Saturday. In the second doubles, Victor Svendsen and Lasse Molhede only had to give up the first of four sets. In the women’s doubles, Julie Macpherson and Debora Jille took the third game point after three short sets against the weakened host doubles team. In the women’s singles, Beiwen Zhang (number ten in the world rankings) won in three sets, as expected. Meanwhile, Matthias Kicklitz remained unlucky in the first men’s singles. After winning the first set and losing the second round, he unfortunately lost despite a series of set points in sets three and four (14:15 and 10:12), which meant that Saarbrücken was able to reduce the lead to 1:4. In the second singles, Victor Svendsen won with a concentrated performance in three sets before Julie Macpherson and Alexander Dunn scored the sixth point in an exciting mixed match in five sets and thus secured three points against the co-favorites from Saarbücken.

In Lüdinghausen, the SV Fun-Ball competed in the men’s doubles as well as the women’s doubles with the same personnel. Like the day before, we won. Once again Matthias Kicklitz was a bit unlucky in the first men’s singles. He lost in five sets. In the second men’s singles, Kian Yu Oei competed this time and won in four sets to make the score 4-1 after a disjointed game on his part. Like the day before, Beiwen Zhang needed three sets in the women’s singles and contributed the fifth point. In the final mixed, Alexander Dunn was unable to compete due to a foot injury and was replaced by Lasse Molhede. In the end, the Molhede/Macpherson pairing had to admit defeat in five sets.
