He ends up in prison for piracy, after having broadcast football on TV with the ‘pezzotto’. Liverpool Crown Court has sentenced Jonathan Edge, a 29-year-old man from Liverpool, to 3 years and 4 months in prison for the crime of piracy. This is an important point made in the fight against illegal streaming.
Edge was convicted of loading illegal streaming services onto devices called Firesticks in exchange for payments. The sentence amounts to three years and four months in prison with an additional sentence of two years and three months for having used and viewed the contents. The legal action was taken by the Premier League, with the support of several organisations, including FACT and Merseyside Police and saw Edge plead guilty to the three offenses under the Fraud Act. An action which highlights the growing commitment, also across the Channel, in the fight against piracy which every year takes away huge resources from the audiovisual and sports industry.
