EDruM: “Save A Run” review

A big beat piece, poised between analogue and digital music, which puts us face to face with our chronic “fear of loving”

“In love, he who runs away wins.” This saying, which reflects all those who are used to disappearing or “leaving their partner hanging” in a relationship, is an apt key to understanding Save A Runthe new song by EDruM.

Just a few weeks away from OuterSpacethe musician originally from Bologna, born Andrea Ge, returns with a piece which, although revolving around electronic big beat to the The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers of the previous single, incorporates sounds closer to analogue music.

A mix obtained thanks to a digital carpet of synths and samplers which joins seamlessly to acoustic drum groove and a samples of Save A Prayerthe famous Duran Duran song that repeats itself several times during the scarce three minutes through which the song unfolds.

Save A Runin addition to the clear play on words with the title of the aforementioned single of 1982, is also an expression used in baseball to indicate the action performed by a player to prevent the opponent from scoring a run. This lemma, coming from sports jargon, is used by EDruM as a metaphor for describe those who, within a relationship, decide to suddenly end relationships with their partnerto avoid getting involved in a potentially painful situation.

A sudden and irrational stance, crystallized by one mid-song skit that plays a phone call in which a girl with a sorry but resolute voice leaves her partner. Thanks to mood energetic and melancholy of his last piece, EDruM describes in a cryptically evocative way that senseless “fear of loving” now felt by many people.

A sentimental illiteracy that is unfortunately amplified by a society that often invites us to feel ashamed of our fragilities, advising us to escape from the many difficulties that life places before us, rather than face them together with those around us.
