14 alleged members of ‘Los Chapitos’ fall in Sinaloa, arsenal and armored truck secured

Fourteen people were arrested in the rural area of Culiacanknown as “El Conejo”, in the administration of Costa Ricaafter a confrontation frustrated by an operation carried out by the Mexican Army.

The event occurred this Monday afternoon and the detained people were identified as alleged members of the criminal group “Los Chapitos”of the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to the authorities’ report, The armed group was there preparing for an attack in the town of Costa Ricawhich generated several calls for help alerting about the presence of the criminals.

In response to alerts from the population, The Army deployed a convoy of soldiers to the site, but the criminals, upon realizing the arrival of the military forces, tried to escape aboard a Nissan NP300 truck, armored and equipped to fire rifles from inside.

During the escape, the vehicle left the road and fell into an empty canal, leaving several of the occupants injured.

The military secured the 14 detainees and seized an arsenal of 13 assault rifles.including several AK-47s, known as “goat horns”.

Besides, They seized around 8 thousand cartridges, more than 100 magazines and the truck that criminals used to escape.

The captured people were identified as Francisco Alonso “N”, Cuauhtémoc “N”, Felizardo “N”, Luis Fernando “N”, Kevin Josué “N”, Jesús Artemio “N”, Humberto “N”, Eduardo “N”, Rubén “N”, Miguel Ernesto “N”, Alan “N”, Miguel Ángel “N” and Esteban “N”.

The Mexican Army handed over the 14 detainees, along with the insured arsenal and vehicle, to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) where the corresponding legal process will begin to determine your legal situation.
