Tennis: Former Uruguayan soccer player Forlan makes professional debut, loses in first match | Reuters

[13th (Reuters)]- Diego Forlan (45), a former Uruguayan national soccer player who is trying his hand at tennis, made his professional debut on the 13th at the Uruguay Open, a challenger tour tournament that began in his home country.

Forlan paired up with an Argentine player and participated in the doubles tournament at the recommendation of the organizers, but was eliminated in the first match after losing in straight sets 1-6, 2-6.

During his time as a soccer player, Forlan played 112 games for the Uruguay national team and scored 36 goals. He participated in the World Cup three times. In the 2010 World Cup, he scored five goals and helped the team finish in fourth place, and was named MVP (Most Valuable Player).

At club level, he won the English Premier League with Manchester United, and also played for Atletico Madrid (Spain). In Japan, he played for Cebu Osaka and announced his retirement in 2019.
