The black uniform shows a red dinosaur wearing Vince Carter’s purple number 15 jersey. The dinosaur is reproducing the iconic maneuver, with the ball between its legs, which allowed Carter to win the football competition. dunks of the NBA in 2000.
Shannon Hosford, director of sales and marketing for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, said she liked the jersey’s details that are drawn from three decades of Raptors uniforms.
“It’s really a blend of our history,” Hosford said. The stripes date back to the 1995 jersey, the logo is a reimagined version of this dinosaur. I would say that every little piece means something to us. »
Although the Raptors unveiled the jersey on Thursday, it will only be worn in one game when the Minnesota Timberwolves visit Nov. 21 at Scotiabank Arena. This will be the first of five games with this one.
This is the team’s first jersey to feature all the colors used over the years, including purple, red, gold and silver.
Hosford said the creation of the jersey began two years ago in collaboration with the NBA.
“What they initially presented was not exactly what we had imagined for our 30e anniversary, so we went back to the drawing board and hired local artist [Kevin Briones]with whom we had worked previously, and we created this version of the dinosaur inspired by dunk by Carter. »
Carter was inducted into the Hall of Fame on October 13 and his number 15 was retired by the Raptors on November 2. He thus became the first player to receive this honor in the club’s history.
