VEENENDAAL A midweek match was scheduled for the badminton players of BC ‘t Veen. The catch-up match against the local club was on the program in Druten on Tuesday evening. The game ended in a draw: 4-4.
The match started well for ‘t Veen with Wouter Fondse and Ben van Luttikhuizen winning the men’s doubles. They won the double neatly in two sets (21-14 and 21-17). The women’s doubles with Dinja van Haastert and Jamie van Brienen started well in the first set with a set win (22-20). The opponents clearly had the upper hand in the second set (8-21) and it came down to a third set. The Veen ladies came back well (21-19), but unfortunately for them this set and the match went to their opponents.
It was now Ben van Luttikhuizen’s turn to kick off the singles. He won the first set with good numbers (21-14). The second set was very exciting. Both players matched each other equally. Ultimately, Van Luttikhuizen managed to win the set (21-19). Dinja van Haastert was the first lady to take to the track to sing singles. Nice rallies were played, but the opponent was stronger (13-21 and 12-21).
Wouter Fondse started his single strongly, although the first set was very exciting. Fondse took that set in extra time (22-20). In the second set, the Veenendaler had a better understanding of his opponent and won the set with clearer numbers (21-16). Jamie van Brienen also got off to a good start in the first set. This was narrowly achieved in extra time (22-20). Then she made more mistakes, so the second set went to the opponent (14-21). The third set did not go better for Van Brienen and so the match was lost to Druten (13-21).
After the singles the score was 3-3. To go home with a victory, the Veenendalers took to the track in the mixed doubles with enthusiasm. The first mix was played by Ben van Luttikhuizen and Dinja van Haastert. They played the first set very strongly (21-8). The opponents gave more resistance in the second set and won it (18-21). In the third set ‘t Veen took the lead again and won the last set (21-13).
As the last match of the evening, Wouter Fondse and Jamie van Brienen were allowed to start their mix. The first set again started strongly and was won with clear numbers (21-13). The second set was very exciting in the final phase and was lost (19-21). It came down to a third and deciding set. This was very difficult for the Veenendaal duo, causing them to lose the set (18-21).
After the mixing the final score was 4-4. Veenendaal is in third position in the group. The next match is scheduled for Sunday, November 17, against BC Gova 2 from Arnhem.
