According to the written statement made by TIKA, equipment and material support was provided to basketball clubs in the capital Dushanbe.
Gayrat and Vahdat Wheelchair Basketball clubs support disabled individuals in Tajikistan and encourage young people to participate in sports. The clubs, which had difficulties due to limited resources, took an important step towards professionalization with the infrastructure support provided by TIKA.
Turkey’s Dushanbe Ambassador Umut Acar, Physical Education Institute Rector Muhammadşo Abdullozoda, TIKA Dushanbe Coordinator İbrahim Ethem Ünal and club fans attended the friendly match organized for the delivery of the equipment provided.
In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Acar expressed his satisfaction in seeing the Turkish and Tajik people getting closer to each other with the real-life projects carried out by TIKA in Tajikistan.
Ünal also stated that, as TIKA, their aim with this project is to ensure the participation of disabled individuals in social life through sports, as well as to ensure that the clubs in question reach a level where they can participate in the Paralympic Games in terms of both infrastructure and athlete quality.
As part of the continuation of the project, it is planned to organize various training programs and friendly matches between the wheelchair basketball teams of the two countries in the coming period, thus sharing experience between the two friendly countries and developing cooperation in the field of sports.
