The city of Barbastro will host the 2024 edition of the Spanish Children’s and Cadet Judo Cup A from November 15 to 17. This event, which is held for the third consecutive year in Barbastro, consolidates the town as a key point for training judo in Spain. It is estimated that the event will generate a positive economic impact on local commerce and hospitality, with an economic movement that could reach 400,000 euros.
The Judo Cup will bring together a total of 1,200 accredited judokas, 150 coaches and 70 members of the Federation staff, who will be accompanied by family members and other attendees linked to the competition. According to data from previous editions, it is expected that around 4,000 people will visit the city during the days of the event, with an average expense per person that would be around 100 euros.
The Sports Councilor of Barbastro, Francisco Albert, has reported that “the Federation already has 1,200 athletes accredited. The majority are Spanish, but we will also have the Andorra national team and judokas from French clubs. A delegation of Valencian athletes will also compete, who make a great effort not to miss this event. Of course, for us it is an honor to have each and every one of the athletes who are going to compete in Barbastro these days, but the meaning that the presence of Valencian judokas acquires is special.”
Programming of the Spanish Judo Cup in Barbastro
Regarding programming, the competition will begin on Friday, November 15 with a Master Class intended for schools in Barbastro and directed by judoka Moussa Macalou, who trains at the Blume Residence and the CAR in Madrid. This training meeting will mark the beginning of the event. On Saturday the 16th, the Spanish Cup will be held in the cadet category, with the participation of young judokas who will compete during the morning. That same day in the afternoon, the Absolute North Sector Championship will be held, in which a hundred judokas will participate with the aim of qualifying for the Spanish Championship. Sunday the 17th will be reserved for the Spanish Cup in the children’s category.
