Returning to La Plagne from January 29 to February 1, 2025, the Ice Climbing World Cup is a showcase that aims to make its mark in view of the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.
2030 is already tomorrow. For many winter sports, preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games organized in the French Alps has already begun. For others, the race against time to appear on the Olympic program is also already underway. Like ice climbing, a candidate sport to become an additional discipline at the 2030 Olympic Games in the French Alps.
A candidacy which will take on a little more depth from the start of 2025. In fact, the The Ice Climbing World Cup will return to La Plagne from January 29 to February 1, 2025. The opportunity for future members of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games present during the finals of the difficulty test to appreciate and gauge the spectacular dimension of this discipline.
A very high level French team
Ice climbing, a sport which, as its name suggests, consists of climbing along glacial formations using ice axes and crampons, securing yourself by installing ice screws. A sport which is also confronted with climate change, pushing it to evolve. For around twenty years, this form of climbing has evolved: glacier climbers will scrape on the rock, in particular to pass a section devoid of ice between two glacial formations. Practitioners therefore alternate between ice and rock.
Ice climbing could also allow France to win valuable medals in 2030. Indeed, French athletes dedicate themselves to difficulty, an event in which they excel. At 23 years old, the title holder for several years, Louna Ladevant monopolizes the first places in the company of her brother, Tristan. After the Lebrun brothers, the Ladevant brothers? It’s a whole discipline that’s just waiting for that.
