Sports agenda: Euro Cup water polo and KZ start

The Greek capital Athens holds almost no secrets for the water polo ladies of ZV de Zaan. This weekend they are back for European matches, the quarter-final of the Euro Cup against Panionios. The teams can also work hard again in the Korfball League. The highest competition within the Korfball world starts on Saturday. Only one Zaanse team is still playing. KZ receives a visit from Fortuna from Delft.

Friday November 15

Basketball

The sixth match for Windmills is another home match in the Zaandam Zuid sports hall. The Zaandammers are ninth and play against number four.

Korfball

While most Zaanse teams already started the indoor competition last week, the Korfball League will also start on Saturday evening. KZ opens immediately against a major opponent and must therefore be sharp from the start. Last week they also played against Fortuna during a practice tournament and KZ lost that match 24-19.

In the Korfball League 2, Groen Geel, which started well last week with a draw in Sassenheim, plays the first home game of the indoor season.

Volley-ball

Hopefully we will ask ourselves this week for the last time: Will the gentlemen of VV Zaanstad book their first victory of the season? In Assen, the Zaankanters will meet an opponent from the top three.

Water polo

The ladies of ZV de Zaan traveled to Athens where they will compete against Panionios in the Euro Cup on Saturday. This is the first match in the quarter-finals of the European tournament between the two teams, the second leg will be in Amsterdam on Saturday, November 30. The ladies of ZV de Zaan have met this opponent before, in the preliminary round of the Champions League last summer. Then the Zaandam team won 7-14. The match can be followed via a live stream.

The other Zaanse teams are completing the Eredivisie programme.

Badminton

Matchpoint (Sportcentrum de Koog) and De Shuttle (De Spatter in Wormer) play at home on Sunday morning.

Handball

Can the ladies and gentlemen of HV Zaanstreek continue their good results from last week? An away match is scheduled for both teams on Sunday afternoon. The men are sixth and go to Kwintsheul for a match against number nine. The ladies are also sixth and go to number two.

On Thursday evening, the Zaanstreek men played an away match against Leidsche Rijn, which they won 21-33.

Hockey

Last week the ladies of the Kraaien won the top match in Woerden, they are now three points clear of the top position in the 4th class. With two games to go until the winter break, the Kraaien will play at home against Mijdrecht, the number eight, on Sunday. It is the last home game of 2024.

The gentlemen of the Kraaien compete in the reserve competition. There are still two away games to go.

Rugby

After a good start to the competition, Zaandijk Rugby lost a few times in recent weeks. Leader Waterland will visit the Jagersveld sports park on Sunday.
