the new sports hall is unanimously unanimous

MWednesday, November 6, after inaugurating the work of the EHPAD in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, Jean-Luc Gleyze, president of the Departmental Council of Gironde, and elected officials from the sector crossed the commune and went to La Garosse to inaugurate the new sports hall recently built, near the gymnasium and the college.

A new facility eagerly awaited by athletes, in particular handball, basketball and badminton clubs, which lacked space to meet demand and ensure their development in existing spaces. “I know that we are making people happy with this new sports equipment, which like the others is a place of life and sharing of values,” declared Célia Monseigne, mayor of Saint-André-de-Cubzac. “I would like to remind you that the 17 sports associations of Saint-André have a total of 3,600 members, plus around 1,500 middle school students and 1,500 high school students who use our facilities. »

Since 2011 and the implementation of a sports plan, nearly 4 million euros of various sports facilities have been built by the municipality: skate park, additional changing rooms at the sports plain, repair of the street dojo Arnaudin, the La Garosse gymnasium and the tennis clubhouse, various sports premises, etc. The community of communes having for its part renovated the Yves Prud’homme gymnasium and built the aquatic center. In La Garosse, the existing sports center, dilapidated and no longer up to standard, the solution of a replacement sports hall and in the same location was judged the best by elected officials, and above all much less expensive than the construction of one. a new gymnasium. This new facility has seven badminton courts, one handball court and two basketball courts.

An investment

The total amount of 1.51 million euros of work was subsidized to the tune of 500,000 euros by the Gironde department and Célia Monseigne thanked Jean-Luc Gleyze for his help, without which this achievement would have been more difficult, or even impossible. “You did it at the right time,” replied the president of the Departmental Council. “Today, with the difficult budgetary context, it would be impossible for us to help you to this extent. I would like to take this opportunity to salute and congratulate all the volunteers who keep all the associations alive, and we are lucky in France, with the law of 1901, to have an associative organization which guarantees everyone access to different sporting practices or others. Sport is not one of the department’s compulsory skills, but we still strive to provide maximum assistance to municipalities. »

Present at this inauguration, several volunteer leaders from the basketball, handball and badminton clubs wore a big smile, delighted by this facility made available to them. “We are of course delighted,” rejoiced Daniel Thébault, president of badminton. “We have made a good arrangement with the other clubs to share the time slots and everyone is satisfied. »

Several clubs will share this new space.
