New board at TSV GWD Minden e. v.

Release: November 15, 2024

Mister GWD has resigned. As announced, Horst Bredemeier has resigned from his position as chairman of TSV GWD Minden. In the year of its 100th birthday, the members fittingly placed the leadership of the sports club in the east of Minden, rich in tradition and success, in the hands of a historian: on Thursday evening they elected Philipp Koch, director of the Minden Museum, as the new chairman.

Bredemeier led his hometown club for 18 years, and at the annual general meeting in the “Old Gymnasium” in Dankersen there was a significant change in personnel at the top. Finally, two other long-standing members of the management team left the board: secretary Gerhard Hallmann and handball department head Wilfried Naue. Of the executive quartet, only Stella Gieseler remains in office as deputy chairwoman for the judo, gymnastics and volleyball departments.

The new team is in place: Philipp Koch is now at the top. In addition to Gieseler, the 78 of the 681 members present elected four new deputy chairmen at his side: Markus Stahlhut (marketing/sales), Michael Selke (finance), Stefanie Jungcurt (writing) and the former GWD professional Oliver Tesch (youth handball). new board team that wants to give the club a new face.

The election marks the end of an almost two-year-long and sometimes laborious selection process that the club conducted under the leadership of Gerhard Buddenbohm. A new boss was finally found in Philipp Koch, who has the desired smell of the stable as well as the necessary expertise as a handball player and leadership personality. “As a historian, I deal with the past, but here we want to shape the future and set the course for the second century of GWD,” said the new boss.

He is aware of the footsteps he is following. When Bredemeier gave up his seat at the board table for Koch, he said casually: “I’ll leave my things here, Philipp. Don’t mess me up.”

Koch was a handball player and coach, he worked at GWD 95/96 as assistant coach of the Bundesliga team and then as a youth coach. In 1999 and 2000 he won the West German championships with the C youth team. The long-standing chairman of the handball group was responsible as editor for the book “And Handball is Round” as well as the GWD book “Green and White” for the club’s 90th anniversary. The 57-year-old is now taking over the position of GWD chairman.

As such, Koch’s first official act was on Thursday evening. The new boss awarded his predecessor Horst Bredemeier the honorary chairman award. An honor that had previously only been given to Karl-Heinz Bruns at GWD. Hallmann and Naue were awarded honorary membership because of their long-standing and diverse commitment to GWD. Then two other men came into focus who had a special influence on the club over decades and were largely responsible for continuity and sporting success: Günter Gieseking and Dietmar Molthahn were also made honorary members.
