This tournament is the last tournament of the season in which only the top eight players with points earned this season can participate. Players will be divided into two groups of four and compete in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
Zverev defeated 8th seed Alan Rublev in the first qualifying round robin match and 6th seed Carlos Ruud (Norway) in the second match in straight sets. Alcaraz, on the other hand, lost to Ruud in the first match, but defeated Rublev in the second match, heading into the third match with 1 win and 1 loss.
In the first set of the third match, Zverev took advantage of his serve, not giving up a single break point. However, in the return game, she had a total of seven break points but was unable to take them, sending the match into a tie-break. In the tiebreak, both players got two mini-breaks each, and Zverev took the lead with his third mini-break at the 10th point.
In the second set, Zverev came back from 0-40 in the first game and suddenly succeeded in breaking. Riding the momentum, Zverev did not allow his opponent to break even once and won in 1 hour and 56 minutes.
This is Zverev’s third consecutive win in the qualifying round robin, and he will advance to the final four by passing in first place. In the semifinals, he will face No. 5 seed T. Fritz (USA).
