The Warriors’ first setback of the season came in the form of an injury. De’Anthony Melton has suffered a sprained anterior cruciate ligament, which will cause him to be sidelined for a while and miss several of the team’s games. The franchise has announced that he will undergo several tests later today to assess the extent of the illness in order to estimate the approximate duration of his absence.
“He is a very important player for us. “He’s someone we see as a starter and has done a great job, so of course it’s concerning,” lamented Steve Kerr. “But we will know more in the next few days.”
It should be noted that while the anterior cruciate ligament is known to be particularly vulnerable to injury, a sprain is very different than a tear, which, if it occurs, could be season-ending for the shooting guard. However, the severity of the sprain can mean the difference between a relatively short absence or a longer one. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the information provided by Californians on this matter.
Melton had only been a starter in the last two games and Kerr had actually expressed his intention for him to continue in that role. He performed well with 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game and was important to the Warriors’ remarkable start to the season, who will have to adjust their rotation to cope with this loss.
