OMNISPORTS – Challenge Brandicourt: Jade Barray, Simon Gamard and Charles Quinet honored by the CDOS

This Friday, November 15, at the Maison des sports in Amiens, the Somme Departmental Olympic Committee honored young hopes from the department by presenting the Brandicourt challenge.

This is surely an organization of which the CDOS is most proud: the presentation of the Brandicourt Challenge to young hopefuls from our department. An organization which dates back a good thirty years and which, at the time, concerned Samarian athletes, whatever their age. From now on, this challenge is awarded to young hopefuls; and this Friday, at the Maison des sports in Amiens, headquarters not only of the CDOS, but also of numerous departmental committees, three hopefuls representing judo and table tennis were therefore in the spotlight.

They had come as a family and we noted, in addition obviously, the presence of Marcel Glavieux, president of the CDOS, the members of the CDOS, Madame Guillemont, president of the Médaillés de la Somme, Jean Christophe Favereaux, director of Sports at the department, that of the two presidents of the departmental judo committees, Thierry Dambrine and Sophie Henon of table tennis. Coincidence or not, and Marcel Glavieux underlined it, table tennis with the Lebrun brothers and judo, especially with Teddy Riner, were among the disciplines that shone during the recent Olympic Games. The shadow of the Games loomed large during this ceremony in this Maison des Sports.

Jade Barray is licensed at the Chepy Judo Club, but attends the Pôle Espoir in Rouen during the week. The place where she can combine training and studies (she is in third grade, editor’s note). She became French junior champion and hopes to confirm in the senior age category. Jade started practicing judo very early. This season, she participated and most often won tournaments, notably in Vernon, Nogent, etc. “She knows how to lead her boat well”insisted the president of the departmental committee Stéphane Dambrine who also wanted to thank the commitment of parents who are close to their child. “We are at a 25% increase in the number of licensees”he recalled, adding that all clubs are mainly training clubs.

The other two winners represent table tennis Simon Gamard13 years old, who plays around 200 matches in a season and his record includes titles, including several champions of the Somme. Simon is a member of the sports and studies section of Wattignies, a 4th grade student, and he is a member of the Le Marclet city club. As for Charles Quinethe lives in Ham and is licensed in Amiens. He won the bronze medal at the French Regional Championships and is champion of the Hauts-de-France region. The president of the departmental committee, Ms. Henon, welcomed the impact of the Games with an increase in the number of licensees and the creation of new clubs such as that of Saint Fuscien.

To conclude, President Marcel Glavieux gave information to the audience: the usual sponsor of this challenge, Brandicourt, but which was not the sponsor of the Games (Crédit Agricole), should take its place again and that is a good thing .
