Fifth in the giant slalom in Sölden three weeks ago, despite winning the first round, Mikaela Shiffrin this time was assured on her two runs on the Levi track, in Finland. This Saturday, the American won her 98th World Cup victory, her 61st in a slalom.
This Saturday morning, the record holder for victories in the World Cup, men and women combined, simply crushed the first round. Starting in eighth position in thick fog, she finished the race in 52”39, or 60 hundredths faster than the German Lena Dürr.
During the second round, Mikaela Shiffrin was able to hold her place, without winning all the same. But overall, she is ahead of the Austrian Katharina Liensberger and the German Lena Dürr.
In the absence of her great rival in slalom, the Slovakian Petra Vlhova, Shiffrin was the big favorite in Levi. And even the Finnish fog couldn’t stop him from winning.
On the tricolor side, Marie Lamure fails at the gates of the top 10 (11th), just ahead of her compatriot Clarisse Brèche.
