Tennis shock: Zverev fails at ATP Finals and Angstgenger Fritz

Tennis superstar Alexander Zverev had to admit defeat to his feared opponent Taylor Fritz 3:6, 6:3, 6:7 in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in Turin. This means that the possible dream final against Jannik Sinner at the end of the season has already ended prematurely.

The American Taylor Fritz is in the final of the ATP Finals for the first time. The 27-year-old defeated the German Alexander Zverev 6:3,3:6,7:6(3) in Turin on Saturday. In the final on Sunday, the US Open finalist will face the top-seeded favorites Jannik Sinner or Casper Ruud. The Italian and the Norwegian will face each other in the second semi-final on Saturday evening (8.30 p.m.).

Fritz, fifth in the world rankings, defeated Tokyo Olympic champion Zverev in the twelfth duel for the seventh time or fourth time en suite. This year the American had already had the upper hand against the world number two of the same age at Wimbledon and at the US Open. “It was tough in the second and third sets. Things can always turn around very quickly against Sascha. But I just trust my game and my level at the moment, even against the top opponents,” said Fritz. The right-hander is the first American in the final of the final tournament of the best eight players of the season since James Blake in 2006.
