This tournament is the last tournament of the season in which only the top eight players with points earned this season can participate. Players will be divided into two groups of four and compete in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
This is the second year in a row that Sinner, who is 23 years old and is ranked number one in the world, will be participating in the tournament for the third time. Last year, he lost to N. Djokovic (Serbia) in the final and became runner-up.
In this tournament, they finished first in the Jiri Nastase group in the preliminary round robin with all three wins and advanced to the semi-finals.
In the semifinals, where he faced No. 7 Ruud in the world, Sinner won points with an 81% rate on his first serve, did not give his opponent a break, and succeeded in breaking four times in his return game. Sinner, who made 22 winners throughout the match, overwhelmed Ruud and advanced to the final in one hour and nine minutes.
ATP, the men’s professional tennis association, posted Sinner’s comments on its official website.
“I tried to concentrate on each shot. I’m very happy with today’s performance and being able to reach the final again.”
The victorious Sinner will face No. 5 seed T. Fritz (USA) in the final. Fritz advanced by defeating second seed A. Zverev (Germany) in the semifinals.
Furthermore, Sinner and Fritz also faced off in the preliminary round robin of this tournament, with Sinner winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
