Death of Bernard Chiarelli, third with the Blues at the 1958 World Cup

Bernard Chiarelli was the penultimate survivor of a team which had achieved the very good performance of finishing third during the 1958 World Cup organized in Sweden. He was 90 years old.

Bernard Chiarelli is no more. Member of the epic French team in 1958 in Sweden, notably with Just Fontaine and Raymond Kopa, the former French international died at the age of 90. The former Valenciennes player only had one selection in the French jersey, in 1958 against Switzerland (0-0).

He was the penultimate survivor of a team which had managed to finish third in the 58 World Cup during which Just Fontaine broke the record for the number of goals scored during the same World Cup (13). Record that still stands. There is only one survivor left, Robert Mouynet, former Lyon player.
