Forward gives too much away!

Forward gives too much away!

Voorvoort played against Westervoort last Sunday and lost the match 1-3. It was mainly a competition to learn lessons according to Yoël Finke (photo archive). The reliable closing post played a flawless match, but saw his fellow players regularly make wrong choices. This helped Westervoort into the saddle.

During the first fifteen minutes it was a waiting Westervoort that left the ball to Forward. That did not mean that the visitors did not get any chances, but this could be attributed to the orange-blacks, because unnecessary loss of ball in the build-up repeatedly led to opportunities.

Voorvoord played at too low a pace to worry the opponent. In the 23ste Minutes later, Bruce Schotman had the opportunity, on a pass from Job Bruntink, to give Voorsprong the lead. His shot from a difficult angle lacked luck.

Around 30ste minute, Westervoort was presented with some presents. The possibilities were first ruined, until a deflected corner struck with great fortune. The 0-1 was deserved at that moment.

Until half time, Marcus van Geelen had another great chance, but Voorkomst was also fortunate that the referee on duty during a counter just before half time, despite the observed violation, left Koen de Hullu alone.

Halftime score 0-1.

Immediately after the break, Voorvoord started without concentration. Yoël had to intervene on a sloppy ball. The referee saw it as a back pass and Voorkomst was able to process this free kick in the 16 meter. Moments later, Paul Eijkelenkamp broke through on the right, his cross just couldn’t be hit enough by Marcus.

Until 65ste For a minute, Voorkomst kept trying. Westervoort was waiting for the attack. In the 70’sste minute, the Westervoort attacker was given a lot of time and space in the penalty area and was able to easily print, 0-2.

Coach Martijn de Vogel tried to turn the tide with a few substitutions. That seemed to work, because Marcus van Geelen was able to score the 1-2 with some fortune. With ten minutes of playing time left, anything was still possible. And that turned out to be the case, because moments later Job Bruntink, after a ball behind Marcus’s supporting leg, was able to approach the goalie alone. It was stopped before he could print. Moments later the match was decided. Yoel: we got another free kick. That was typical of this afternoon. A wrong choice and it was suddenly open house for Westervoort, 1-3.

Yoël: a justified defeat. However, it still bothers me so soon after the match that we gave away so many presents. However, the points today would be bonus points for us. We are now facing an important phase in the competition, in which we want to make a difference with our direct opponents. We will take today’s lessons with us to next week when we play away at VVG’25.

The team from Gaanderen lost the championship in the final phase of the competition last season, but is now one point below Voorsprong.
