Assistant coach Anthony McHenry and Gordy participated in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Kadena Special Olympics held at Kadena Air Base on Saturday, November 16th.
The Kadena Special Olympics is an event in which children and students with intellectual and physical disabilities who live throughout the prefecture and on U.S. military bases participate. Participants, known as “athletes,” competed in a variety of sports, including basketball, 30-meter running, and wheelchair softball throwing. Many people seemed to be enjoying the event, including the participating athletes, participating volunteers, and officials from Japan and the United States.
At the opening ceremony, assistant coach Anthony McHenry declared the tournament and the tournament started. Assistant coach Anthony McHenry’s family also attended the event and competed in competitions such as the basketball shooting challenge.
In addition, #4 Vic Law, #10 Arakawa Hayao, and #18 Waki Masahiro sent video messages to the participating athletes, and Gordy also sent a message of encouragement to the athletes competing.
