World No. 1 Japan and No. 2 Chinese Taipei booked their spots in the Super Round of the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS after claiming victories on Sunday in the penultimate day of Group B play in Taipei.
Defending champions Japan beat world No. 9 Cuba 7-6 in a thrilling game played under light to medium drizzle in front of 5,000 fans at the Taipei Tianmu Stadium. It was the first ever Premier12 game played between the two international baseball heavyweights.
The win confirmed Japan’s spot as Group B winners with a game to play having won all four of their games. Cuba are tied with Australia and Dominican Republic with one win and three defeats.
Japan play the Dominican Republic on the final day of Group B on Monday while Cuba take on Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, a sold-out Taipei Dome saw Chinese Taipei beat world No. 15 Australia 11-3.
The win confirmed Chinese Taipei in second place in Group B behind Japan with three wins and one defeat. Korea in third spot, with two wins and two defeats, can’t improve having lost to both Japan and Chinese Taipei earlier in pool play.
Japan and Chinese Taipei will join Group A winners Venezuela and runner’s up USA in the Super Round, which takes place in the Tokyo Dome, Japan from November 21-24.
