Guillaume Lamiot, the recent president of the BBC (Bacchus Badminton Club) of Issoudun could have a smile on Sunday November 17. Of course, like the club’s volunteers, he was tired, but he could only rejoice at the success of the sixth edition of Blackminton, played on Friday and Saturday.
Nearly a kilometer of adhesive tape to equip the eleven surfaces
Starting with the crowds encountered throughout these two long evenings. “In 2023, we only had one evening and it was far too tight, so we chose to offer two tournaments. » The BCC was rewarded since the participants, licensed or not – with a proportion of approximately 70%-30% – responded in large numbers to the invitation. With a total of around sixty teams for nearly 250 badistas, mainly from Indre but also from neighboring departments, licensed or not. Not bad when you know that the tournaments ended each time around 2 a.m.
The Pepsi was equipped with: field lines – “The eleven playing surfaces made us use far more than a kilometer of adhesive tape”figures the president –, neon nets and ruffles and violet light lamps to bring out all this decor in a room plunged into darkness. As for the participants, the trend was white, again for contrast. All to the rhythm of wild music. “It’s an opportunity for bad players to play in clubs, but also in business, family or friends teams,” continues Guillaume Lamiot.
Friendly and fun
It is not an official tournament, but it is intended to be very friendly and fun. The teams have chosen original names, makeup and disguises are allowed, even encouraged. “Some did not deprive themselves of it. In these conditions, and even if a few good players were in the evening, incognito since in the dark, the results had little importance. » But it was serious nonetheless since each team of four players, a men’s doubles, a women’s doubles and a mixed doubles, played five rounds of competition in a single evening, with matches lasting between eight and ten minutes. Enough to sharpen the competitive spirit of the most motivated. Even the youngest had their tournament, daytime, on Saturday afternoon.
After this success, the BBC and its 90 licensees will return to the routine of departmental, individual or team competitions. To prepare them, BBC members have four training slots in the Cligman gymnasium, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings for young people. And this time, despite the success of blackminton, white light is required.
