Toby Alderweireld: “Physically I can still handle it, I’m quitting purely for my children”
In six months, Toby Alderweireld will have finished the game of football. “Physically I can still handle it and I will certainly miss football, but I also want to be there for my children at the weekend,” the 35-year-old defender explains in Gert’s table.
Toby Alderweireld has made the decision: his third season at Antwerp will be his last as a professional footballer. He will stop at the end of May.
“Purely to spend more time with my children,” Alderweireld explains in the Play program Gert’s table.
“Physically I can still handle it and I will certainly miss football, but I also want to be there for them at the weekend.”
Alderweireld has a 6-year-old daughter (Ayla) and a 4-year-old son (Jace). “Now it’s still ‘daddy, daddy, daddy’. I don’t want to miss that time.”
“Because there will come a time when they would prefer that I close their room door,” the former Red Devil also knows.
I’m going to give everything for Antwerp for another 6 months.
Toby Alderweireld
Not that Toby Alderweireld will become a full-time househusband. “I still work as an analyst and I have my drinks brand (MM Antverpia, ed). And I will discover the rest.”
“But first I’m going to give everything for Antwerp for another 6 months,” he promises (Beerschot fan) Gert Verhulst.
