RONO HILLS, Nov 18: The four-day 10th University Badminton League-2024 of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), organised by RGU Officers’ Club (RGUOC) with men’s and women’s doubles event (intra-club & open categories) and mixed doubles (open and intra-club) concluded here on Sunday evening.
Prof Gibji Nimasow and Geography research scholar Tanil Tabang pair lifted open (men’s) championship trophy in a thrilling final match defeating the research scholar pair of Kulenso Pul & Jango Tacho with the score reading 16:21, 21:18 & 21:19.
In intra-club doubles, registrar Dr. N.T. Rikam & assistant Prof (physical education) Dr. Hemantajit Gogoi retained the trophy for second consecutive year by defeating Dr David Pertin & Takang Sangdo pair in straight sets with score 21:17 & 21:19.
In another straight contest in women doubles finals, faculty member-student Dr. Oi Dai Nimasow & Osinam Eko pair defeated Dr. Nuki Gammeng & Dipika Basumatary.
In the intra club mixed doubles final, Prof. Gibji Nimasow & Dr Oi Dai Nimasow pair won by defeating Dr. David Pertin & Naying Perme Saroh pair.
In the mixed doubles (open) final, Research Scholar-B.PEd. trainee Kulenso Pul & Jomoni Lochung pair defeated Faculty member-student pair of Dr. Hemantajit Gogoi & Osinam Eko in a keenly contested three set match.
Tabang was declared as best player, research scholar Jango Tacho as Best Smasher, PG student Ometso Ngadong (emerging player), Prof. Gibji Nimasow (Most Stylish Player for third consecutive year). Trophies, medals and cash prizes with citations were given away to all the players, match officials and volunteers by chief guest, patron, chairman and secretary of RGUOC
Total 27 teams divided into pools took part in various league matches, which were witnessed by faculty members, officers, research scholars, students and staff and enthusiasts, According to a RGU release.
