The San Roque sports hall, in the Valladolid town of Tudela de Duero, was the venue for the last absolute and senior tournament of the 2024 season, which this weekend was called by the Federation of Castilla y León, with the participation of Badminton Soria players. (CBS) and AD89 from El Burgo de Osma.
The competition could not have been more satisfactory for the female participation of the senior Soria players who won in all possible categories in what, for some of them, is the last competition of the season.
Among them, Daniela Corchón stood out, a first-year player in the under-19 category but who is already beginning to stand out in the senior category and who won gold in both singles and doubles at last weekend’s event. In singles, she started as the second seed and exceeded expectations to win all her matches by two sets to zero and once again win an absolute title.
In women’s doubles, she shared a partner with her clubmate Beatriz Hernández, a great specialist in doubles modalities. As happened in the individual table, they counted their matches by victories. Precisely in the semifinals they faced the other main protagonist of the day, Esther Pereira from Burgos. The match fell to the Sorianas by a close score: 24-22 and 21-19.
Pereira avenged this defeat by winning the mixed doubles event with Raul Gutierrez from the Burgos Badminton Club. Being already a very experienced couple, they made good their position as main favorites.
The competition also had space for seniors where all the displaced Sorians returned with medals.
Santiago Martínez, from ClBS, obtained two metals, one gold and one silver. In mixed doubles, together with the Extremadura player Beatriz Martín, they confirmed their status as the leading couple at the national level to win the title in the Tudela event. Santiago added to this gold, the silver medal in the individual category.
The rest of the medals came from the senior players of the Burgense AD89, with the balance of two silver medals in the doubles modalities.
José Romero took the runner-up position in the men’s doubles with Jesús Manuel González from Arandino, while Crysthel Alférez, after having recently joined the competitive side, won the silver medal in the women’s doubles.
Another part of the senior players of the AD89 played in Binéfar a tournament also valid for the national ranking and with excellent results for Sergio Latorre and Cristina Puebla. Both won gold in the mixed doubles category, with Sergio Latorre adding silver in his participation in the men’s doubles category.
